You’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth with nature’s candy.  Good job by you.  Fruit of any kind is better than the processed sweet treats you see prominently displayed nearly every corner you turn, especially when you’re hungry.  So your instinct to go for the natural option is great, but before you go fruit crazy just know not all fruits are created equal.  Some are deceptively unhealthy.  Ask Adam and Eve about trusting every fruit thrown your way.

With that said, I have put together a list of the 10 healthiest fruits you can eat.

1. Grapefruit

Grapefruit is by far one of the healthiest foods you can eat.

Here’s a shortlist of benefits studies show grapefruits provide:

-Helps weight loss
-Reduced Insulin Levels
-Lowers Cholesterol
-Prevents Kidney Stones

2. Pineapple

Pineapple may come from the tropics, but it doesn’t take a vacation when it comes to providing you health benefits.

Just one cup of pineapple provides 131% of the Reference Daily Intake (RDI) for vitamin C and 76% of the RDI for manganese.

Besides the huge vitamin C boost pineapple provides several other benefits:

-Anti-inflammatory
-Aids protein digestion (that’s why it’s so great to pair with beef or pork)
-Helps protect against cancer and tumor growth

3. Avocado

Avocado is one of those fruits that doesn’t seem very fruity…like tomatoes.

One reason for this is most fruits are high in carbs, while Avocados are low carb and primarily made of super healthy fats.

Some benefits Avocados provide include:

-Reduced inflammation
-Improved heart health
-Lower Blood Pressure
-Lower Risk of Stroke

4. Blueberries

If you’re feeling blue, this is the berry for you, this super fruit is packed with fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K and manganese.  Blueberries are also exceptionally high in antioxidants.

The benefits you’ll find in blueberries are:

-Reduced risk of heart disease, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s
-Immune system boost
-Improved memory in older adults

So don’t forget blueberries next time you’re at the market (and if you eat more blueberries you probably won’t!)

5. Apples

An apple a day may not keep the doctor away, but when you see your doctor they’ll be impressed by your improved health.  Apples contain a high amount of fiber, vitamin C, potassium and vitamin K. They also provide some B vitamins.

These vitamins and minerals help apples provide you with:

-Reduced the risk of type 2 diabetes, cancer, and Alzheimer’s
-Increased bone density
-Improved digestion

6. Pomegranate

I know they may be intimidating to the uninitiated but Pomegranate sure packs a powerful punch.

This stone fruit provides:

-Antioxidants
-Reduced inflammation
-Reduced cancer risk

7. Mango

Eat more mangoes and they’ll say “look at that man (or wo-man) go!”  This vitamin C-rich fiber full fruit from the tropics will have you feeling refreshed.

Mango benefits include:

-Reduced risk of disease
-Protects against diabetes
-Anti-inflammatory

8. Strawberries

I don’t know why they call them strawberries, they certainly don’t suck.   Their vitamin C, manganese, folate and potassium contents make this fruit popular to pick. When compared with other fruits, strawberries have a relatively low glycemic index meaning you have a lower chance of a large blood sugar spike when eating these oblong ruby delights.

Strawberries provide:

-Reduced risk of chronic disease
-Prevents cancer and tumor formation

9. Cranberries

If you’re only eating cranberries around Thanksgiving you’re being a real turkey.  This superfood is rich in vitamin C, manganese, vitamin E, vitamin K1 and copper.

Cranberries give you:

-Improved overall health
-Prevent urinary tract infections
-Improved bladder health

10. Lemons
